Population by census year, 1996 to 2021Line chart of census population for the eight municipalities and Dufferin County. Counts run from 1996 to 2021 for every line. In % growth view, each line is measured from its 1996 count. Full data in the table below.

Data table and sources ↓

Note: Census counts before 1996 aren't shown: comparable municipal figures aren't available online after boundary changes; see Statistics Canada.

  • Gaps are left blank on purpose: we only show counts we could check against Statistics Canada.
  • Each census reports counts on that census's boundaries, and some Dufferin municipal names and boundaries changed over time (Grand Valley appears in the 1996 and 2001 profiles as East Luther Grand Valley, Township). Check Statistics Canada's census subdivision change tables (StatCan change tables) before comparing older municipal counts.
  • Land areas were also re-measured between censuses (for example, Orangeville 15.61 km² in 2016, 15.16 km² in 2021), which affects density comparisons.
  • Check: for every census year shown (1996 to 2021) the eight municipalities add up exactly to the county total.
