Property tax rates by municipality

Residential, commercial and industrial property tax rates for Dufferin County's eight municipalities. Each rate is split into the municipal, County of Dufferin and provincial education portions, with a link to the official document it came from.

Rates change every year. Always confirm with the municipality before you rely on a number. Your tax is your MPAC assessed value × the total rate for your property's class. Commercial means the commercial full (occupied) class (CT) and industrial means the industrial occupied class (IT). Other subclasses (vacant land, excess land, large industrial, small-scale on-farm) can have different rates. BIA levies, water, sewer and other charges are not included.

County tax ratios, 2026

The County sets one set of tax ratios for both County and local purposes. A class's rate is the residential rate × its ratio, so commercial is 1.22× and industrial 2.1984× residential for the municipal and County portions. Education rates are set by the Province. [County of Dufferin By-law 2026-18 (Tax Ratios), passed Feb 26, 2026]

How Dufferin compares with neighbours

2026 adopted total rates (municipal + upper tier + education) for Dufferin's eight municipalities and eleven nearby municipalities in Peel, Halton, Wellington, Simcoe and Grey. Checked 2026-10-21.

A rate is not the whole bill.

  • Rates are only half the bill: assessed values differ a lot between places, so a lower rate does not mean a lower tax bill.
  • Peel and Halton are two-tier regions; Wellington, Simcoe and Grey are counties like Dufferin. Upper-tier share differs widely.
  • Commercial = commercial full/occupied (CT); industrial = industrial full/occupied (IT). Optional small business subclasses, graduated rates, vacant/excess land and large industrial subclasses can differ; check each municipality.
  • Some municipalities have urban and rural rates or area-rated charges; the row note says which is shown.
  • Brampton is a large city and is shown for scale.

Rate history, 2012–2026

These charts start in 2012, the earliest year any municipality publishes its rates online. Rates for 1998–2011 (since Ontario's 1998 property tax reform) weren't published online, so they are marked "not found" in the CSV and JSON downloads. Lines show only years with an official rate sheet or by-law; a missing point means we could not confirm that year, not zero. Education rates for business classes fell to a uniform 0.88% in 2021, which explains the drop in commercial and industrial lines.
